He said the impasse between the three commissioners had brought the image of the commission into disrepute.
Prof Gyampo was reacting to the current development at the EC involving the three commissioners in a radio interview on Accra-based Peace FM Tuesday afternoon.
Background
A group calling itself concerned workers of the Electoral Commission (EC) have petitioned President Akufo-Addo to initiate impeachment proceedings against the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Charlotte Osei on grounds on misconduct, citing breaches of some provisions in the 1992 Constitution as well as the Public Procurement Act, Act 663.
The concerned workers sent a similar petition to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) asking for investigations into the leadership of Mrs Osei.
Responding to the EOCO petition through her counsel, Mr Thaddeus Sory, Mrs Osei leveled counter accusations against her deputies.
In the Peace FM interview, Prof Gyampo was of the view that settling the impasse between the three commissioners will not even guarantee that the three officials could work together again to execute the mandate for which the commission was established.
According to him, the three commissioners had disgraced the commission and dragged the image of the commission into disrepute and mud.
He said the three commissioners are mature people but had not demonstrated maturity in their conduct, saying “but clearly they have not been able to demonstrate professional maturity by their own allegations and counter-allegations”.
He added that “they have dragged the image of the commission into disrepute and in the mud”, he said.
Prof Gyampo said the matter that had brought the impasse between the three EC commissioners were not policy issues affecting the commission but mainly personal issues.
He said bringing the three commissioners together will be a difficult thing to do.
