Fire guts office in Parliament

Fire guts office in Parliament Featured

Fire last night gutted an office on the 10th floor of the Job 600 building serving as offices for the 275 Members of Parliament (MPs).

The timely intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) contained the fire.

The few MPs and officers of the Parliamentary Service who were on the floor at the time of the fire around 6:30 p.m. escaped unhurt.

The Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Mr Billy Anaglate, said the fire had been brought under control.

He said the fire had affected a small portion of one office and a kitchenette.

He said the GNFS would conduct an investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

Leadership

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, told journalists that all the floors had fire extinguishers and fire alarms.

He said normally the alarm should have given an alert on the fire but wondered why it failed to do so this time around.

He expressed joy that no life had been lost or injury sustained.

However, he said, valuable property had been destroyed in the fire.
