Norther region: 11 people who died out of Bagre Dam spillage buried Featured

Eleven people who lost their lives at Tamale in the Northern Region as a result of the spillage of excess water from the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso have been handed over to their families for burial.

Two out of the eleven were children and they were given to the families for burial since they were Muslims.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) officials believe the eleven died as a result of the flooding due to the spillage.

NADMO said the deceased were crossing the over flown rivers in the communities affected by the spillage when they were whisked away by the water.

NADMO officials in the Region are monitoring the situation and liaising with their National Headquarters in Accra for relief items for the affected persons.

A humanitarian crisis is looming in a number of communities in the Northern Region, particularly, areas along the White Volta and the Black Volta, following the spilling of excess water from the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso.

Several acres of farmlands have already been consumed by flood waters and lives are under threat.
