Heavy police presence in Kwahu Abene over chieftaincy dispute Featured

The Police in the Eastern Region say they will continue to show heavy presence in Kwahu-Abene until all potential security threats subside.

The regional command deployed personnel to the town last month following clashes triggered by the installation of the renowned pathologist, Professor. Agyeman Badu Akosa as chief.A new chief, known in private life as Eugene Kwasi Asante Boadi, was installed over the weekend, sparking fears of potential troubles in the town. But the Eastern Regional Police PRO, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, has told Citi News that the situation is under control.

“We have been on the ground ever since [last month], and we are not there to supervise an installation or support one side or the other. We are there  because there was a near breach of peace in the area and since then our men have been deployed on the ground they will continue to be on the ground,” he said.

“They are professionally and competently carrying out their legitimate duty… We have enough men to police the ground,” he added.

Some Chiefs and heads of families last month questioned the enstoolment of Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa, alleging that the practice was not customary.

The Chief of Abetifi and acting Paramount chief of Kwahuman, Nana Asiedu Agyemang III, who is contending Prof. Akosa’s enstoolment, has urged his fellow chiefs to back his stance.

Reports indicated that the enstoolment ceremony took place at the blindside of some of the concerned chiefs. Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, when contacted, declined any comments on the matter.
